The products of Apple Computer also have unique names that are both recognizable and exclusive. Trademark and descriptive copy requirements, ensure that the our trademarks are protected and consistent in the marketing message.
A trademark—a brand name—must be used as an adjective to identify products having a particular manufacturer; it should not be used as a noun. The following examples represent correct use of the registered trademark symbol:
"Apple Computer, Inc., manufactures Apple® personal computers."
"Apple® personal computers, such as the Macintosh® LC computer, are used in most schools nationwide."
Trademarks should never appear in plural or possessive form. This keeps the trademark from becoming a generic word. Thus, do not refer to “Macintoshes” or “LaserWriters,” etc. More than one product should be stated as Apple Macintosh computers or Apple LaserWriter printers. An Apple trademark must appear with its first letter capitalized to distinguish it from the surrounding text.
The first use, and only the first use, of an Apple trademark in any printed material excluding headline or when used in the screen of a computer photo/artwork/illustration must include proper notice of trademark registration--that is, a superscript “®”, “™” or “SM” (see Trademarks below).
In references to Apple personal computers, the registered trademark is “Apple” or “Macintosh” (for example, Apple® IIe, not Apple IIe®; and Macintosh® IIfx, not Macintosh IIfx®).
Advertisements and other printed materials (with the exception of business cards, store signage, and billboards) must include either credit lines or Apple trademarks to be eligible for 100 percent reimbursement.
There are five Apple products where standard trademark rules do not apply.
Macintosh® Classic®. Note that both words require the "®" registered trademark symbol. Credit line to follow: “Macintosh is a registered trademark of Apple Computer and Classic is a registered trademark, licensed to Apple Computer, Inc.”
Apple IIGS®. Note that the"®" registered trademark symbol must appear after the IIGS, not after the word Apple.
Macintosh Quadra™. The name "Quadra" is never to be used alone in any description of the CPU. The trademarked name is "Macintosh Quadra™."
Macintosh Centris™. The name "Centris" is never to be used alone in any description of the CPU. The trademarked name is "Macintosh Centris™".
Apple Duo™ and PowerBook Duo™. The name "Duo" is never to be used alone in any description of the product. The trademarked names are "Apple Duo™" or PowerBook Duo™."

Registered trademarks:
You must “®” the first use of Apple registered trademarks (except in a headline). Note that trademarks are alphabetized and “™” and “®” symbols do not appear in the credit line:

“Apple, the Apple logo, Macintosh, and StyleWriter are registered trademarks of Apple Computer, Inc. Classic is a registered trademark, licensed to Apple Computer, Inc. AppleColor and PowerBook are trademarks of Apple Computer, Inc.”

DESCRIPTIVE COPY REQUIREMENTS
The descriptive copy requirements, although not as extensive as they have been in the past, are still considered very important. We have substantially increased the number of copy points, so Resellers have an expanded list to select from. In addition, Resellers may now choose from product-specific copy points, Macintosh Advantage and/or Family copy phrases provided, or they may create their own. Failure to follow descriptive copy requirements will result in AppleFund reimbursements being prorated or denied.
Apple requires its Authorized Resellers and AESAs to meet certain descriptive copy standards for all AppleFund reimbursable ads and activities that mention Apple products. Each menu item will indicate whether descriptive copy is required. The descriptive copy requirements focus on the features and benefits of the Apple products and emphasize a sense of excellence.
Apple’s descriptive copy requirements are as follows:
At minimum, the first mention of an Apple product must use the complete product name; Apple Model Name; for example, Apple® Macintosh® IIfx computer, rather than just Macintosh IIfx.
The copy must include a minimum of one Apple descriptive phrase per ad that identifies a feature or benefit of the product being advertised. You may also choose Macintosh Advantage or Macintosh Family phrases, or you may create you own.
Descriptive copy may appear in either bullet point or sentence form, but must appear within the body of the item, not in small type at the bottom or in credit lines.
The copy must identify the Apple computer system(s) by specific CPU name or Macintosh product line name.
Questions regarding descriptive copy requirements should be linked to APPLEFUND.
